The View From Our Hotel Room

More Vegas Pictures

Our Family Vacation to Las Vegas

We left home at 6am (SHARP), well ok, 6:02am, for our family vacation to Las Vegas. The kids were ubber excited, but did very well on the long road trip down there. We olny had to stop twice. We arrived in Las Vegas at 12 noon, their time, so we had to find a quick lunch for the kids. Frankly, I have never eaten in a more fancy McDonald's in my life (I just wish the food was a bit more fancy). After that we began our long trip down the strip to our hotel, The Excalibur. We dropped Millie and Olivia off at the front door to check in while Hannah, the boys and I drove down to the Mirage to pick up some show tickets. Hannah suprised Millie and I with a night out on the town. She bought us ticket to the amazaingly beautiful production of Love (it is the Beatles Circus...acrobate show). Before we saw the show, we took the kids over to see the lions at the MGM Grand, and then over to the M&M World store to see the 3-D movie.

The next morning the kids got up real early, so I snuck them out of the hotel room so Millie and Hannah could get some rest. We drove down to Treasure Island and parked there. We walked out in front of the Treasure Island to see the ships, then we crossed over to the Venitian to look into the wax museum there. The boys were very excited to see Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), in the museums front window (There was also Whoopie Goldburg and Poveroti). We then rode the moving sidewalks over to the Harrah's Casino. The boys loved the moving sidewalks. Once we got to Harrah's we crossed over to Ceasar's Palace, to go into the large mall there. The escilators were even cooler for the boys, because they curved as they went up. We were the only people in the building, besides the occational security guard. Harrison loved the fountains in the Ceasar's palace; "I am going to bring back my swimming suit and go swimming in there." I had to explain to him that those fountains were only for looking at not swimming. Eventually we made the painful treck back to our van.

Later that morning we rode the tram over to Mandalay Bay to visit the Shark Reef aquarium. The kids loved the aquarium, and all of the fish.

The boys and I then went swimming while Olivia took a nap.

That night we all enjoyed an evening at the Tournement of Kings show at the Excalibur. The kids were a little apprehensive in the beginning, but they warmed up quickly to it. We sat in the Dragon section so we got to cheer for the bad guy.

After the show we drove down to the Fremont Experience to see the show there. By the time we got bakc to the hotel, the kids gave us no arguement about going to sleep.

Before we left on Tuesday, the boys and I went to the Spounge Bob 4-D ride, which we gross. If there was a splash on the screen, then we in the audience got wet, or iff there were bubbles on the screen, there were bubbles in real life around us.

All-in-all it was a great trip.

Easter Egg Hunt At the Grandparent's Pfaff

On Friday afternoon the Pfaff family gathered together at Grandma and Grandpa's house for an easter egg hunt. They had dispersed a fifteen gallon bag worth of easter eggs around their backyard for four grandchildren to find and enjoy. I am sorry that the images are bad, I have not yet figured out how to fix this on our camera.

Julian's field trip

I had the privilege of chaperoning a group from Julian's first grade class on a field trip to the Dinosaur Park and the Tree House Museum.  There were five kids in the group, and they all wanted to do something different, but in the end Julian was the natural leader.  The Dinosaur Park was the Dinosaur Park, but the Tree House Museum is where I found out something very interesting about my son...(Wait for it)...he is a ladies man.

They were doing a interactive story in the auditorium, and Julian was chosen to be the merchant of the story.  Well, the merchant needed a wife, so the museum guide asked for volunteers to be his wife, and six girls quickly rose their hands to volunteer.  As quickly as they rose their hands, they put their hands back down in their laps.  The museum guide and I had a good laugh over the fact that their were so many girls willing to be his wife.  Eventually, Annie DeGroot was selected to be his wife, and they had to hold hands in the story.

To make a long story short, they held hands most of the rest of the trip...

Draper Temple Open House

download.php.jpg

Today the Burch Creek 4th Ward Primary took a trip down to the Draper Utah Temple to go through its open house.  Before we set out on this venture, the Stake Primary had an activity for all of the Stake Primary children and their leaders.  They took and divided the Stake into Wards and then set us all in different rooms in the Church.  Each room represented a part of the Plan of Salvation (Pre-mortal life through eternal life); and we spent about five minutes in each room hearing testimonies of its importance.  This was a very spiritual precursor for what we as a Ward Primary were about to embark on.

At 11:30 we all loaded into our family vehicles and drove down to the temple.  Eventually, we all found the right church to park at (mind you, there are about a thousand-million chapels in Draper); we were supposed to be in the Red Parking Lot.  The ushers herded us into the Cultural Hall until our whole group had arrived.  They then split us up into two groups, so we could watch a short ten minute video on temples and their importance to Christian faith.  We were then directed to the other side of the church to wait for the bus to shuttle us over to the temple.  It was about this time that poor little Harrison had an anxiety attack; you see when we took him to Temple Square last year to see the Christus...he thought it would come alive...to make a long story short, I think he thought he was going to see a giant speaking "God" at the temple.  We eventually calmed his fears by telling him that there would be cookies served at the end of the tour. : )

On the ride over to the temple, there were anti-mormon protesters along the street carrying the banners of repentance/forgiveness and my favorite, Celestial Sex.  I diverted the children away from reading that sign.

The temple was absolutely beautiful, especially the baptismal font.  It is situated in the lower West side of the hill so they have windows that let in the natural light (not like other temples where you feel and know that you are in the basement).  As we walked from room to room, people were whispering to each other, but as soon as we entered the Celestial Room, the Spirit came over us, and it was the most wonderful feeling of peace and joy that I have felt in a long time.  The room of course was stunning.  We ended the tour in a Sealing Room (there is a 90 person occupancy Sealing Room, the largest in the church, but we were in a small one), where the boys could look in the mirrors to see themselves forever.  Harrison got a little excited in this room...we had to keep reminding him to stay off of the nice carpet, and stay on the mats that they had set out for the open house. : )

In the end we had a very spiritual time at God's House (per Harrison), and Harrison got two cookies as promised.

Harrison's dinner time prayer...

"...bless that there will be jam on my roll."  Millie and I could hardly contain our laughter

Wednesday, November 12, 2008

Tonight we had hot chocolate and waffles for dinner. I had finished my dinner when Millie asked me, "Do you not like your drink?" I replied innocently enough, "It is hot right now."

My ever so smart six year old, Julian said, "That's the whole point of hot chocolate."

Millie about shot hot chocolate out of her nose, she could hardly contain herself.

I love my family.

That Boy

This last Sunday afternoon, we had all settled into our customary spots for our naps. Millie and Julian were on our bed, Olivia was in her crib, and Harrison and I were downstairs watching T.V. I had fallen asleep quickly, but Harrison proceeded to play around in the room. The night before, Olivia's pearl necklace broke and there were pearl pieces scattered randomly around the room, well Harrison found one of these pearls and began to play with it. In his great four year old wisdom he decided to see how far he could push the one pearl up his nostril, unbeknown st to him it inevitably became stuck. Thinking that he would get in trouble if he woke me up from my Sunday nap, he ran upstairs to get Millie's help in getting it out.

Now let me tell you, I didn't know about this until the next evening, so Harrison had to reenact how Millie and he had decided how to remove it from his nose. I almost crashed the car when I turned around and saw him showing me how the accomplished this impossible feat. I have asked him to reproduce it for the picture above. All he had to do was blow to shoot it out. : )

Harrison

This morning we were sitting on our bed playing with Olivia (actually we were arguing as to who would feed Olivia her breakfast), when Harrison came in to join us. He quickly accepted the mission of going into the kitchen and getting his little sister a Graham Cracker.

A short time later we hear him struggling with a new box of crackers. The next thing we know the box of crackers popped open and fell to the floor and then "OOHHH! I didn't 'spect that to happen," Harrison exclaims.

We could hardly contain or even disguise our laughter as he came triumphantly back into the room with the broken cracker pieces in hand.

That boy makes me laugh.
